The minimal instance size in ES Cloud is F1, which uses a smallest machine size with 2 vCPUs available in a particular cloud environment. All those machines use burstable credits, so when those credits expire, the machine might be unable to support the required compute demand.
It is confirmed that ESDB can function on lower-grade machines with one vCPU or even less, and it doesn't require 2GB of RAM. Deployments on smaller machines might require tweaking the database configuration with regards to caches and filters. It might also be required to lower the chunk file size to decrease the amount of RAM needed for the chunk cache.
Still, using smaller VMs that are potentially not burstable, would allow offering lower-price instances for experimentation, day-to-day developers experience, and integration tests.
